Installing Acrobat Reader on your machine
Macintosh:
Your downloaded version of Acrobat Reader will be compressed. If you do not already have
a decompression program, you can easily download a shareware program. Common compression programs are
StuffitLite (.sit), Binhex (.hqx), and Compact Pro (.sit, .hqx, plus own. Great for PowerMacs).
Use the following menu to download the shareware program of your choice from
ftp://mirrors.aol.com/pub/mac/util/compression/:
StuffItLite 3.5
StuffIt Expander 3.5
Binhex 4.0 (download in Macbinary format)
CompactPro 1.51
Windows/DOS:
Your downloaded version of Acrobat Reader will be in the form of an executable (.exe)
file. You will not need any special software to decompress this file. You may want to follow the
following steps:
Windows Installation:
Using window's file manager, create a new temporary directory called c:\acro
Drag the .exe file into this directory and double click on it.
You may need to click on another directory, then return to this directory. If Acrobat Reader
does not automatically start to install, read the appropriate .txt or .doc files for instructions.
After Acrobat Reader has installed itself, delete the temporary c:\acro directory.
DOS Installation:
At the c prompt, create a new directory: c:\ md acro
Copy the .exe file into the new directory: c:\copy [filename] c:\acro
Change to acro directory: c:\ cd acro
Look for an .exe file: c:\ dir
To initiate acrobat reader, type the name of the .exe file you observed in the directory
at the prompt: c:\acro\[filename]
