Subject: E2- Discussion: E2 and Mythology

To follow up on what my husband was saying about someone liking Greek mythology, I'm more of the opinion that one of the writers was into mythology in general. The Grendlers are named after the creature from "Beowulf", Grendel. They remind me a lot of trolls or gnomes. The Terrians are earth spirits, or elves in the Tolkien sense. They move in dreamtime, can only speak to a certain few, and then only in dreams, cannot attack their own kind, and are children of the earth. Besides that, something hit me the other day while watching "A Memory Play". At the end, when Firestein sees a vision of Wentworth, she's dressed in an African-style robe, and she's walking across the river. She reminds me of Oshun, one of the West African Deities, or Orishas. Oshun is the Goddess of Love, and she also governs rivers. She was coming back to take her beloved with her. I'm sure that "evil Terrian" that got Danz in "After the Thaw" has some mythological significance, but I can't think of what it is right now.
