About men vs women on this list. I was on a natural science field trip to Hawaii (my camping trip to Hell) and was surprised to find out that the professor leading the trip loved Earth 2. The prof is a woman. She pointed out to me that this is a show where the leaders are women. We have Devon in charge (albeit closely monitored by Danz), Julia who by being the doctor has a lot of say, then Bess Martin who is obviously the one wearing the pants in that family. After reflecting on that statement and discussing the show with the sci-fi friends I have at work, I have come to think she had a point. Men tend to dislike any situation where a woman is in distinctly in charge (no offense to the obviously more discerning men on this list!). I get the same sort of "ewwww" look when ST:Voyager comes up. The guys at work can't stand Janeway. (Niether do I really, but for different reasons.) The guys couldn't stand Devon. They're so used to the "ready-made male superhuman" men, such as Picard, that having a more normal character, a woman at that, is distasteful to them.
It's a sad statement that in this supposedly enlighted time that society, and I do include women in this, *really*, deep down, still can't accept having a woman in charge. Again, present company excluded.
I firmly believe that its this, along with most people having totally lost all contact with their roots in nature, that have caused the demise of our beloved show. I've been studying Conservation Biology, a natural science, for five years now. I *love* the Gaia connection that has been magnified on G889. I can forgive the obvious scientific errors or the occasional wild "what ifs" (Brave New Pacifica comes to mind) that make the nit pickers groan in agony because the *roots* of the Earth 2 series are so *right* to me.
I'd love to hear from some of the men on this list. How many of you are nature lovers? Do any of you feel that the Gaia Theory (and yes, it is recognized as a scientific theory) is valid?
